One of our recent interviewees was Mary Goodacre. We interviewed her after coming across her while writing about the Devon and Cornwall Wild Swimmers, several of whom fitted into the Silver Grey aesthetic. Since our interview Mary has caried on full steam ahead.
She completed the Berlin Marathon in September 2012 in a time of 3hrs 53 minutes, being 8th in her age group. She was due to participate in the New York Marathon, cancelled due to Superstorm Sandy, having already arrived in the city. She did, however, take part in the London Marathon finishing 13 out of 169 in her age group. She says that after the tragic events in Boston it was a very emotional experience. She is planning to do both Boston and London next year, the two races being only a week apart.
Soon after London, she raced in the Plymouth half marathon, finishing first in her age group.
She has no plans to take part in any longer distance triathlons this year, only shorter events. She will be taking part in The Plymouth Triathlon in July, and will then compete at the ITU World Championships in London in September. She is doing two events, a sprint triathlon and 2 days later an Olympic distance event.
Phew! What an inspiring example. She said in her interview that she has no plans to slow down any time soon - she's certainly proving that to be true!
