Marathons on each continent

With the London Marathon taking place at the weekend, this story seemed appropriate. But before the story, our thoughts are with the families and friends of all those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings.

At 81, Margaret Hagerty has an entry in the Guinness Book of Records. She was at that time the oldest person to have completed a marathon on each of the seven continents - seven! Including The Antarctic Marathon. And she is still running, having completed the Mocksville 5k run in March this year.

Her running history began with her doctor warning her, at 64, to give up smoking or suffer the consequences. This led her to take up jogging, which eventually brought her to longer runs, and eventually marathons. She has also competed in Triathlon, and apart from her runing training also swims regularly and trains with weights.

As usual, there's no secret, just determination - to be fit and strong, and {jcomments on}to put in the hard work that gets results.
